Met Opera Turandot seats

Main Post:

Hi! I've never been to the Met Opera but really want to go see Turandot. There are some dates available for the under 40yo tickets, and the date I'm looking at has the following seats available:

Orchestra row Z seat 106 for $110 Grand Tier row F seat 115 for $100 Dress Circle row F seat 118 for $85

Are any of these worth it? Or would it be better just to fork over some more money for better seats?

I know the Grand Tier and Dress Circle rows F have an overhang, and I'm wondering how much it would hinder the experience. Thank you for the advice!!

Top Comment: Everyone has their preference, but for a first time I would go with that Grand Tier seat. I love Grand Tier because you get the full experience of the house — you can obviously see the stage, but the pit and the conductor as well. Yes, there’s the overhang, but I would not recommend going out of budget to avoid the overhang.

Wtf is the Met Gala?

Main Post:

Is it literally just like a famous person party that everyone likes to watch? I don’t understand what do they do there

Top Comment: It's a charity event to raise money for the fashion gallery there. It's big news because it attracts a huge number of socialites, actors and entertainers.

What exactly is met Gala and why is it such a big deal

Main Post:

I read the chatgpt version

Basically an invite only function where the socialities meet and greet and raise money .

But why is it a big deal ? Will kiara suddenly get hollywood offers or pc get a few roles based on an appearance ?

All of them go on cannes and flaunt it on the social media.but what's the ultimate payout.

Some brand deals or endorsements. How does it help in their career ultimately ? Or is it just a social media pr that I went to this function.

Met Gala Misconceptions - 2025 Edition

Main Post:

I posted a version of this thread last year and people seemed to like it, so here's an updated version:

Hooray, it's the first Monday in May! There are a lot of misconceptions about the Met Gala so let's talk about it in advance of tonight's coverage.

First, it’s a fundraising event to raise money for a non-profit, the Met’s Costume Institute, not a random fancy-dress ball.

Secondly, the “theme” is the subject of that year’s special exhibition. Calls to “just change the theme” a few weeks before the event because it’s controversial, like “Karl Lagerfield: A Line of Beauty,” are strange because museum exhibits are planned months to years in advance. There would be no feasible way to just have a different exhibition at the last minute.

Thirdly, speaking of themes, there is no requirement for attendees to dress to match the subject of the exhibition, only the dress code. Many do, because it’s fun and good press, but the regular “it’s great but they don’t match the theme ☹️” discourse after every Met Gala is pretty silly.

This is especially relevant this year because the exhibit is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" but the dress code is "Tailored for You." I'm guessing most non-POC attendees won't wear outfits inspired by black fashion (maybe because of the risk of cultural appropriation) but instead might wear nicely tailored pieces.

Lastly, most celebrities who attend the Met Gala are guests of the invited designers/fashion houses. Some do buy their own ticket, which costs thousands of dollars, but they’re a minority. Therefore, if Margot Robbie is a guest of Chanel, then she has to wear Chanel. This also impacts the “following the theme” aspect - e.g. the celebrity guests for Moschino looked great at the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” gala but, unsurprisingly, looked less great at the “China: Through the Looking Glass” gala. I anticipate that brands that typically haven't drawn much inspiration from black style won't suddenly choose to do so tonight.

So, I love fashion, and love how much discussion the Met Gala generates. It’s like the red carpet Olympics, but the overexposure plus lack of understanding leads to a lot of dis- and misinformation. I hope this overview is useful.

Top Comment: Any celeb that buys their own ticket would be considered socially inferior. The year that Kate Upton bought her own ticket the snippy fashion people made fun of her for it. People don’t realize what it means for the celeb to be there as the design house’s guest. The designer will provide the clothes - some will be collaborative, but some will basically just give the celeb something to wear. It also all goes through to Wintour for approval. She’ll also help matchmake celebs and designers.

What do people actually do at the Met Gala?

Main Post:

Do they all just fawn over each other’s crazy outfits or do they actually do something there? Do they dance? Eat? Listen to speeches? Never understood it.

Top Comment: I think they walk around the museum and look at the exhibits, have some drinks and dinner, watch some sort of performance (this year it was Ariana Grande performing some of her songs), and I assume that’s about it. There will be multiple after parties to go to afterwards as well, but not hosted at the Met.

S.Coups at Met Gala 2025 (SEVENTEEN)

Main Post:

Did anyone else lowkey get goosebumps seeing S.Coups at the Met Gala this year?
The way he blended traditional Korean hanbok vibes with modern tailoring was honestly next level.

The theme was “Garden of Time”, and his outfit felt like a whole cultural story—
From the long durumagi-style overcoat to the pleated pants and jeogori-inspired jacket. And that Piaget diamond watch? Clean.

Vogue even said: “This is what it means to wear heritage with pride.”
And now he’s officially a Global Ambassador for BOSS too?? This just feels like a moment for K-fashion globally.

So, real question:
What did you think of his look? Too safe, or the perfect blend of classic and modern?
And do y’all think this could open more doors for hanbok-inspired fashion on red carpets?

Top Comment: His look was perfectly on theme, regardless of what ppl like to claim. "Tailored for you" and he's wearing an element of his own culture, with some elements of the pompous trains of dandy suits. It's amazing.
